Chapter 397
Nathaniel couldn't help but burst out laughing, patting on his chest. "So, does this mean whether our companies make money this year depends on this one brownie tonight?"
Freya was amused by his words. "Theoretically, yes."
"Wait here," Nathaniel said as he walked back to the coffee table and opened his wallet, only to freeze.
His expression twisted slightly as he pulled out a few bank cards and looked at Freya with a troubled expression. "Can we use bank cards? How about this black card? It promises endless wealth!"
Freya couldn't help but laugh. "We're eating brownies for good luck, not trying to choke on a card, Mr. Nathaniel!"
Nathaniel was also amused by his own suggestion, looking at Freya with an embarrassed smile for the first time.
"Do you... have any spare change?"
Despite dating this woman for four years and later becoming fierce enemies, this was probably the first time Nathaniel had ever asked Freya for money.
Freya didn't have any money either. They had left Stanna in a hurry, and she had only brought her phone and key pouch. The pouch contained a few dollars, but they were all paper bills.
"How about dollar bills?" Freya suggested.
Nathaniel thought for a moment. "But considering it's a traditional festival with customs passed down from our ancestors, putting dollar bills in it might seem disrespectful to our ancestors."
Both of them stared at each other, their combined wealth was enough to buy half of Saeville, yet they couldn't find a suitable coin for the brownies. "Go borrow a coin!" Freya said with a laugh.
A hint of embarrassment crossed Nathaniel's handsome face. Although everyone in the village spent his money, the thought of borrowing money on a festival felt like a death sentence. Normally, minor tasks like this were handled by Koen, but he and the others had left per Nathaniel's instructions.
Moreover, Koen was now about a thousand kilometers away, having flown back to Saeville to reunite with his parents. Calling him for a coin would be inhumane.
"You go!" Nathaniel refused Freya's suggestion for the first time. Despite his deep love for her, he couldn't bring himself to go out and borrow money from others.
Freya also found it hard to cross this mental hurdle. "I... I don't know anyone in this village. You do, so you should go."
"I..." Nathaniel gritted his teeth an et
grabbed Freya's hand. "Let's go
together. If I'm going to embarass myself, we might as well as do it together!"
"Let's borrow from Tammy. She's closer to us, and maybe she won't laugh at us."noveldrama
Freya didn't expect him to be so ruthless, not only to his lover but also to himself.
Nathaniel put on his parka and then draped another parka over Freya's shoulders, carefully wrapping her scarf around her neck.
Hand in hand, they left the
courtyard. The villas here were alt built uniformly, looking identical. After walking about a hundred meters, Nathaniel suddenly stopped and exclaimed, "Oh no!"
"What's wrong?" Freya asked, quickly realizing what was going on and chuckling softly.
"Nathaniel, don't tell me you don't know where Tammy lives?"
The odd expression on Nathaniel's face deepened. He rubbed Freya's head. "Can you stop laughing, please?"
"Do you think a busy CEO like me should know where a village woman lives?"
"Hey! Freya..."
Freya couldn't hold back her laughter any longer and laughed even louder.
"Freya! That's enough!"
Hahahahaha!!
"Freya, cut it out!" Nathaniel reached out and pinched the back of Freya's neck, but she couldn't stop laughing.
What do you think?
