Why does this food taste just like Aunt Betty's?

After another feast, Lewis even had his toothbrush and cup set by the bed.

Honestly, Kailee had always dreamed of being surrounded by handsome men and, well, being rich. She nailed the rich part, but as for the handsome men? That seemed elusive.

Then Lewis came along and made it happen.

For two whole days, she barely left the bed, except for bathroom breaks. Each evening, she'd soak in a luxurious bath before climbing back into bed. And once she was there, well, things got pretty steamy with Lewis. Kailee got used to it, even started enjoying it, so she just rolled with it.

That is, until a week later when Joseph called, wondering why she hadn't been home. Kailee shot up from bed!

"Bro, I totally fell for the handsome man trap."

And not just a pretty face, but a food trap too. The call snapped her back to reality, reminding her she'd planned to give Lewis a piece of her mind the first night. But a week had flown by, and instead of confronting him, she was swept away, night after night. She ran her hand over her waist, feeling the extra softness. After a week of indulgence and lounging, she'd definitely put on a few pounds.

"Kailee, what on earth are you up to?"

Joseph was still in Beaconsfield, or he'd have come to haul her back himself. Feeling guilty, Kailee hurried to get out of bed, her legs shaky from the week's exertions, her cheeks flushing. "Bro, it's a long story."

She couldn't quite explain it, not even sure how things had gotten to this point.

"Then make it short."

Joseph's voice was icy, "Are you causing trouble again?"

Kailee, caught off guard, instinctively wanted to argue, but was this really a mess she'd made? She wasn't sure.

Just then, Lewis walked in with a tray of his homemade desserts, and noticing she was up, he asked casually, "Why not sleep in a bit more?"

Kailee's cheeks flushed. She'd been pampered all week. She looked up, ready to scold him, but for what?

Accuse him of taking advantage? But she hadn't objected all week, so it felt too late to complain now. She took a deep breath, trying to sound aloof. "I should head back."

"Isn't it nice here?"

"It is," she admitted without thinking. His cooking was amazing, better than any chef she knew, and his fruit platters and desserts were works of art. How could someone like Lewis even exist? en

Lewis stopped her, "Stay another week. You don't have anything pressing back home."

Kailee thought he had a point and was almost convinced, but then Joseph's ominous voice came through the phone. "Kailee, who's the guy with you?"

Kailee froze, suddenly remembering she was still on the call with her brother.

"Bro, it's me, my ex-boyfriend. I told you it's complicated."

Feeling guilty, she quickly ended the call, her eyes drifting to the tray Lewis held, then to her slightly rounded belly.

She thought, No more eating, or I'll really pack on the pounds.

"Lewis, don't forget our deal. Until you win me back, you can't tell Rubin you dumped me, got it?"

Lewis raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile on his lips, "That depends on your sincerity."

There it was again, sincerity. Kailee was still clueless.

"Then... maybe a few more sleepovers?"

Lewis's eyes darkened as he set the tray aside slowly. "Kailee, are you serious?"

Kailee backed up a bit, "Or tell me, what kind of sincerity are you after? Picking you up from work every day is a no-go. I just can't do mornings; I have to sleep until noon."

Reflecting on her life, she realized it seemed pretty indulgent. If it weren't for her family's wealth and her brother's generosity, she might not even be able to support herself.
