Master of his heart (Brielle and Max)

Chapter 1463

Lewis saw the tears in Kailee's eyes, and it tugged at his heartstrings. "Why are you crying?" he asked gently.

Kailee slammed her hand on the table, her eyes brimming with tears yet filled with defiance. "Just you wait. Once my brother's back in North America, I'm seriously going to have him sort you out." Lewis tried to grab her hand, but she pulled away sharply. "Kailee."

Her brother wasn't someone who could be easily fooled. It'd be smart to get the marriage license first thing tomorrow morning. By the time her brother returned, there'd be no turning back. "Let's get that marriage license first thing tomorrow," Lewis suggested.

Kailee hadn't expected him to agree so quickly. It caught her off guard. Maybe it was because since their reunion, Lewis had been so sarcastic. His sudden agreement made Kailee suspect there might be an ulterior motive. But since she was the one who proposed marriage, backing out now would make her seem indecisive. "Alright."

The next morning, just as they got their marriage license, Kailee got a call from her brother, Joseph. He was back home and wanted to talk.

Joseph was uneasy after Kailee's call, especially after hearing a man's voice in the background. He worried his sister might be getting duped.

He knew Kailee too well: gullible, believing every tall tale, and always too proud. If a man wanted to deceive her, he probably could.

Joseph was sitting in the living room when Kailee walked in with Lewis. Having him by her side seemed to boost her confidence. She strutted in, already planning to show off Lewis to her so-called frenemies later. "Brother, I didn't expect you back so soon."

Seeing Lewis, Joseph's eyelids twitched involuntarily. "Kailee, what's going on here?"

Kailee beamed with joy. "Bro, let me introduce you. This is my husband, Lewis."

Joseph nearly choked. As realization dawned, his expression darkened. "Say that again?"

Kailee had rarely seen her brother angry, especially at her. When he slammed the table, she turned pale.

"This is my husband, Lewis. We just got our marriage license. We were planning to tell you later."

Joseph's gaze was sharp, piercing through Lewis. Lewis stood his ground, patting Kailee's back as she looked like she might cry.noveldrama

"Kailee, step outside for a bit. I need to talk to your brother."

Kailee hesitated, knowing her brother's temper. If she left, Joseph might just lose it.

Lewis leaned over and kissed her gently. "Wait for me for half an hour. After this, we'll take Ruby and the others out for dinner."

It was more about showing off than dining. After all, she had snagged Ruby's dream guy and even married him. She couldn't wait to see Ruby's reaction!

Kailee's mood lifted in an instant. "Okay, Lewis. Have a good talk with my brother." She sauntered off, humming a tune, her mood light as a feather.

Once Kailee left, Joseph sneered. "Kailee's been sheltered her whole life and doesn't know a thing about men. Yo&might have tricked her into marrying you while I was away but she'll come to her senses eventually. She doesn't understand loyalty, marriage, or responsibility.

He knew this well, having teased her about her naivety before. Her heartbreaks were fleeting. In a week, she could easily move on.

And now, Lewis, her ex, had

somehow convinced her to rush into

marriage. There had to be a catch, and Joseph was convinced it was all Lewis's doing.
